Description: The flat appearance was made while thinking of the power created when the public assembles at one central point and symbolizes the will of the united patriotic martyrs during the Gwangju Student Independence Movement, and the distant view was made to have an image of a torch burning with harmony of the standing stones.
In contrast to other memorial towers where people can freely enter between the standing stones of the memorial tower, the concept for a memorial tower where visitors can actually experience it was introduced.

Description: Centering on the sculptured figure wishing for independence while holding the Korean flag in the center of the disc, depicts the images of young students resisting the Japanese empire.
